What is Rakeback?

One of our most commonly asked questions is :”What is Rakeback?” This short explanation below will hopefully clear up any queries you might have:

What is Rake?

Rake at an online poker site is the percentage of a pot or tournament fee which is taken by the poker site as a source of income. In a cash game at Fortune Poker the rake is 5% of the total pot whilst in a tournament or SitnGo it is the proportion of the fee which is not included in the total prize pool.

For example:

In a cash game the total pot is $60 therefore the rake is 5% of $60 = $3

If a tournament/SitnGo buy in is $10+$1 the rake is the additional $1

What is Rakeback?

Rakeback is a loyalty scheme operated by third parties which returns a proportion of your rake back into your account at the end of the month. RakebackPoker.com is able to offer 30% rakeback at Fortune Poker and is calculated by the contributed rake method.

-          The contributed Rake method:

Players are rewarded for the amount of money they have contributed to the total pot. For example if a player has contributed half of the chips to a pot then they are eligible to receive rakeback on half of the total rake.

For Example:

In a cash game hand the total pot is $60

There are two players in the hand and each player has contributed $30 or 50% of the pot.

The rake from this hand is 5% of $60 = $3

Each player therefore is entitled to rakeback on 50% of this = $1.50

A player with a rakeback deal from RakebackPoker.com receives 30% of $1.50 = $0.45

Simples.
